What's correct etiquette for Twitter? I know how to not be annoying, but are you supposed to follow people who follow you? All of them? Are you supposed to send a message to people thanking them for following you? What's the deal?

I don't know about "correct" etiquette, but my practice if they follow me first I check out their profile and see what's in it. If it seems likely that their interests and mine are similar, I'll follow them back. You may send a message thanking them if you wish, but many are annoyed by automatic direct messages. An @ message seems appropriate sometimes, and I've seen @messages thanking groups of people, or not directed specifically, just acknowledging the new followers.
